The 8th Thrissur International Folklore Film Festival will begin on January 10. The film festival, held at locations such as Ramdas and Ravikrishna Theatres, St. Thomas College, and Government College of Fine Arts, will run until January 15.
Organised by the Thrissur International Film Festival, Bhaumam Social Initiative, St. Thomas College, and Nattu Kalakara Koottam, the festival will showcase films from 35 countries over six days.
In the international section, six feature films along with sixteen short films/documentaries/ animations from 17 countries will compete. In the Indian folk section, five feature films and 14 short films/documentaries/ animations films will be showcased. In total, more than 150 short films, documentaries, animations, and feature films will be presented. An online platform will also be available from January 10 to February 20.
Some of the prominent feature films to be screened include Another Time from Japan by John Williams; Tasian from Iran by Shirin Afrand; Moriscik: The Story of the Boatman from India by Vandana Menon and Debashish Nandi; and The Final Round from the United States.
Other notable films include Woman: The Invisible Support of the Border (Argentina); Bird Drone (Australian animation); The Taste of Honey (Bangladesh); Monisto (Russia); Afrath (Iran); Everyone Sings (Iran), Human Carnival (India), Croc Show (India); The Party (Spain); Thought Become Things (Bermuda); and Legends Lost (Pakistan).
Awards in both international and national categories will offer ₹50,000 for the first place and ₹25,000 for second place.
