After legal battle, hundreds attend military funeral of IDF airman who died by suicide

After his family fought to recognize him as a fallen soldier, Asaf Dagan, a combat pilot who suffered from PTSD and took his own life, was laid to rest in a military funeral in a civilian cemetery. ‘I’m sorry you lost your way and couldn’t find it again,’ his sister said in her eulogy

Hundreds attended the funeral on Tuesday of Asaf Dagan, a combat pilot who died by suicide, following his family’s lengthy public and legal battle to obtain the right to a military funeral. On Sunday, Israel’s High Court of Justice ruled that Dagan would receive a military funeral in a civilian cemetery after the army initially refused to recognize him as a fallen soldier.
