Under pro-Palestinian pressure, Belgian festival pulls documentary on transgender Gazan

‘Belle from Gaza,’ which portrays Palestinian society as anti-LBGTQ, is not Israeli and only partly filmed in Israel, but Cinemamed decided to pull its screening after various activist groups said it ‘Contributes to the pinkwashing and colonialist narrative of genocide’

An international film festival in Belgium announced on Wednesday that it was cancelling the screening of the documentary film “The Belle from Gaza,” under pressure from pro-Palestinian activists. The French documentary film follows a young Palestinian transgender woman who flees Gaza on foot after her life was threatened because of her gender identity, and arrives in Tel Aviv to live freely and formulate her identity.
