In late May 2024, just over half-a-year ago, the United Nations peacekeeping force alongside the Israeli-Syrian border marked 50 years since its establishment. Known in military and diplomatic jargon as UNDOF – the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force – this international body of over 1200 personnel is responsible for keeping in place the ceasefire between Israel and Syria that was reached at the end of the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
