The frequent early awakenings – in the middle of the night – which plagued residents of the center of the country this week, in the wake of missiles launched from Yemen, rendered somewhat ridiculous the government’s boasts about imminent total victory. No one doubts that Israel chalked up a series of impressive achievements on all fronts following the devastating shock of October 7, 2023. But the attacks by the Houthis – most of the missiles were intercepted by the Arrow system – provided a reminder that the whole affair is still far from over. Israel finds itself in a new war, which this time is being conducted from Yemen, and indirectly from Iran.
