Source at Netanyahu-Edelstein meeting: Edelstein didn’t budge
A source who was present at the meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and MK Yuli Edelstein said it was conducted in a respectful manner but that Edelstein did not budge from his position regarding extending reserve services and about the law exempting the ultra-Orthodox community from conscription.
In a veiled critique of Netanyahu, Gallant tells White House officials U.S.-Israel disputes should be resolved ‘behind closed doors’
Israel and the U.S. have the same goals in the war in Gaza, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said at the start of his meeting with U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan at the White House. “Even when we disagree on the path, we resolve it in closed rooms,” Gallant said.
The defense minister said he and Sullivan would “discuss as friends a long list of things – Lebanon, Gaza, Iran, issues related to them (the U.S.) and also the issue of American supplies to Israel.”
IDF, Hamas fighting in Rafah intensifies, residents report; Israel reportedly strikes north, central Gaza camps
Israeli forces pounded several areas across Gaza on Wednesday, and residents reported fierce fighting overnight in Rafah in the south of the Palestinian enclave.
Residents said fighting intensified in the Tel Al-Sultan neighborhood in western Rafah, where tanks were also trying to force their way north amid heavy clashes.
Later on Wednesday, an Israeli strike killed three Palestinians and wounded others near the northern Jabalia camp, medics said.
In Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip, tank shells struck an apartment, killing at least five people and wounding others, medics said.
IDF: Several anti-tank missiles fired into Metula, northern Israel; house sustained damage
Several anti-tank missiles were fired into the Metula area, the IDF reported. The city’s council head said a house sustained damage in the neighborhood of Har Tzafia, in the northern part of Metula.
Analysis | Israel’s burden-bearing public Is frustrated. It won’t let the military get away with a symbolic Haredi draft
News of the Supreme Court’s Tuesday ruling on drafting ultra-Orthodox yeshiva students soon reached reservists serving in the forward command post of a regular army brigade. They are on the Lebanese border, in an area exposed to Hezbollah’s antitank missiles.
Reservists who have been assigned to regular army units during the war serve almost exactly like soldiers doing their compulsory service do. Some of these reservists have been fighting almost continuously since the massacre in southern Israel on October 7.
A jeep driver at the forward command post, a reservist who wears a black kippah, has been serving with his brigade commander during all the months since the brigade was transferred from the Gaza Strip to the north. At the beginning of the war, he was stationed for a few months in the West Bank.
When he was asked on Monday whether he now expects an influx of yeshiva students to replace him, he laughed. For now, the reservists attached to the brigade commander will have to solve the problems of their service by themselves, with no outside assistance.
Netanyahu and Edelstein discuss exempting ultra-Orthodox conscription and extending reserve service
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, MK Yuli Edelstein, met for over an hour and discussed the conscription exemption law for the ultra-Orthodox community that Netanyahu is promoting as well as raising the age for reserve duty.
In the absence of a broad agreement on the bill, Edelstein delayed Wednesday the committee’s vote on extending reserve service. Tuesday night, Edelstein said the conscription exemption law “will pass with broad consensus, or it will not pass at all.”

Mother of hostage Daniella Gilboa to PM: My daughter could return with a ‘Hamasnik’ grandchild – bring her back
Orly Gilboa, whose daughter Daniella was kidnapped on October 7 from the Nahal Oz outpost and taken hostage to Gaza, addressed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday, asking he meet with her and other hostages’ families. “Daniella is a young, beautiful woman, everyone recognizes her from the footage of her being kidnapped, and from the video released by Hamas showing her begging to be released,” said Gilboa in a statement issued by the Hostages Families Headquarters.
“Nine months is normally the time period for bringing new life into the world, for happiness, for fresh beginnings. For us, nine months is the mark of awful things, my daughter could come back with a ‘Hamasnik’ grandchild. Now is the time to bring her back to me. We saw the happiness that was felt three weeks ago when the four hostages were rescued. I’ve to the prime minister repeatedly that this is the happiness that Israel deserves. Give it to us, we need it, this is our victory, that we deserve after nine months of wilting, waiting for our loved ones to return. This is the only victory,” she added.
