FRS will be holding a private webinar on Friday January 31st at 2 pm on the following topic: “After the Assad regime: how to rebuild a future for Syria?”

This seminar will bring together three prominent experts on Syria and key regional players:

  • Dareen KHALIFA, Senior Adviser for Dialogue Promotion, Former Senior Adviser on Syria, International Crisis Group
  • Hamidreza AZIZIVisiting Fellow, Africa and Middle East Research Division, German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP)
  • Yasmine FAROUKNonresident Scholar, Middle East Program, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace

The event will be moderated by Laure FOUCHER, Senior Research Fellow (Middle East) at FRS.

The webinar aims at exploring how Syria can navigate the challenges ahead regarding security, governance, economic recovery and state-building after 13 years of civil war and the end of the Assad family’s five-decade rule. It will also address the evolving relationships with Turkey, Iran and the Gulf Arab States, the way these regional players are reassessing their role in a post-Assad Syria and the potential implications of the ongoing reconfiguration for the future of Syria.
