BBC Breakfast: Ben introduces report on Ukraine talks
BBC Breakfast host Nina Warhust has confirmed a break from the show as co-star Ben Thompson hosted alone on Sunday (February 16).
Ben and Nina usually present the morning news programme every Sunday, but Ben graced the iconic red sofa alone today as Nina spends some time with her family over half term.
While she hasn’t officially addressed her absence, Nina took to her Instagram Story on Saturday (February 15) to share a photo of her son enjoying the Horrible Histories tour at the Palace Theatre in Manchester.
“Half term is GO with Terrible Tudors,” the caption read. “It was gory, funny and pacey (crucially under 2 hrs all up).”

Nina joined BBC East Midlands regional news in 2010, before presenting BBC North West, Sunday Politics North West and BBC Sport. She began reporting for BBC Breakfast in 2018, before succeeding Steph McGovern as business presenter in 2020.
Nina regularly steps in for her BBC colleagues on weekdays. Earlier this week, she was on location at London’s Royal Free Hospital to see how NHS pressures impact those on the front line.
However, there have been a few changes this week, as Ben replaced Charlie over four consecutive days, leaving several viewers confused. Charlie has yet to comment on his absence from the show.

Elsewhere on today’s show, Ben updated viewers on the latest headlines, including news of a British couple being detained in Iran, a recent Kent shooting, and the upcoming BAFTA Film Awards.
Ben also announced some “breaking” news during the live broadcast, revealing that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio plans to meet Russian officials in Saudi Arabia in the coming days for talks aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
“That comes as Sir Keir Starmer and other European leaders prepare to meet tomorrow at an emergency summit over concerns that Europe is being locked out of the peace talks,” he explained before handing over to the BBC‘s Chief International Correspondent Lyse Doucet, who had sent in a pre-recorded report from Munich – where the annual Security Conference was coming to an end.
Chetan Pathak was also in the studio to present the sports news, while Simon King was on hand to give regular weather updates.
