The UAE’s seismic network recorded a 5.8-magnitude earthquake in Western Iran on Sunday evening, said the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

The shake was detected at 10:55pm UAE time and it hit at a depth of 10km, the NCM added.

Earthquakes are frequent in Iran because the country is located in a seismically active region where the Arabian Plate collides with the Eurasian Plate.
