Cyclone Fengal Live News: Puducherry declares holiday for schools, colleges tomorrow amid heavy rains
Cyclone Fengal Live News: Puducherry has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges tomorrow due to continuous heavy rains caused by Cyclone Fengal. The Union Territory recorded an unprecedented 48.4 centimeters of rainfall over 24 hours until 8:30 AM on December 1, marking the highest 24-hour cumulative rainfall in the last 30 years, from 1995 to 2024. This severe weather has led to widespread flooding, with parts of the city submerged under water.
Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy confirmed that the city received 50 centimeters of rainfall overnight, causing significant flooding. Rescue teams are currently working to evacuate stranded residents. Meanwhile, train services in suburban districts, which were severely affected by the storm, have resumed normal operations from December 1.
Cyclone Fengal made landfall in Puducherry and nearby coastal districts of north Tamil Nadu, bringing torrential rain and disrupting local transport. The Indian Army’s Chennai Garrison Battalion was deployed early on Sunday to assist in the rescue operations. A Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) team was mobilized to help flood-affected areas, reaching Puducherry after a swift overnight journey from Chennai.
In the Krishna Nagar area, floodwaters rose as high as five feet, trapping residents in nearly 500 houses. The Indian Army’s rescue efforts, which began early Sunday morning, successfully evacuated over 100 people in the first two hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Cyclone Fengal, currently stationary near Puducherry, is expected to move westward and weaken into a deep depression over the next few hours. The situation remains critical, with continued efforts to assist those affected by the storm’s impact.

Today I am going to Tilak Nagar, to meet shop owners where firing happened. The law and order of Delhi is under Home Minister Amit Shah. Our MLA has been arrested, he was also a victim of gangsters, he was getting calls from them. He had written to Delhi Police asking for help against the threats of gangster Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu… He was asked to collect money by the gangster. MLA Naresh Balyan is victim of Kapil Sangwan. He will follow up on it. It may take some time, maybe six months, maybe one year into his new presidency. But this is something that we can absolutely foresee coming. The US in a way is making a last-ditch effort to stay on and be the number one empire in the world. The next four years are going to be critical. What Trump is attempting is that the world order or the world matrix for the next 40-50 years will be centred around America and America will dominate the foreign policy of nations, the currency of nations and all other related aspects. Lastly, what he’s saying is he is heading to make a group, you are with us or against us… The impact will be major. What remains to be seen is whether the BRICS countries stop their conversations about alternative platforms which they have been doing which I think that they will not. They will continue thinking. Now, in this new context, the issue is that the world is realizing that the financial banking network SWIFT is dominated by America and Trump is asking for the dollar to be the reserve currency…”

This will almost put an embargo on imports being done from these countries, says Economist Sharad Kohli on Trump’s tariff threat to BRICS nations
Dehradun, Uttarakhand: On a recent threat by US president-elect Donald Trump to BRICS countries regarding de-dollarisation efforts, Economist Sharad Kohli said on Sunday, “… This will almost put an embargo on imports being done from these countries. If we flip the coin and look at it from the other side, the BRICS countries will find it impossible to export their products to us because 100 per cent tariffs would make exports unviable for Americans to buy. I think we have seen countries collapsing around the world because of foreign exchange dependence on US dollars. We have seen Sri Lanka collapse… Almost 60 per cent of the world’s foreign exchange reserves are in US dollars. 88 per cent of international transactions being done around the world are in US dollars 62 per cent of the international debt happening around the world is in US dollars… I think this is also a declaration of an economic war on the developing countries by America. This is completely unfair because this is checking the economic independence of the countries to deal internationally in their respective countries or in an independent currency… India is very much part of BRICS. I think even India comes under that radar and in a much bigger way. So this is an open declaration by Donald Trump to launch an economic war on the developing country if they give up US dollars as a trading currency.”
