On February 15, G7 foreign ministers, following a meeting on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, in a joint statement, condemned Iran’s actions in the sphere of nuclear energy, support for regional allies in the Middle East, its ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles program and human rights violations in the Islamic republic.
The Iranian diplomat said that Israel was the “only impediment on the path to establish a nuclear-weapon-free Middle East.” According to Baghaei, the Jewish state, “leveraging the unwavering support from the Group of Seven countries, along with genocide in the Gaza Strip and aggression against other countries in the region, continues to develop weapons of mass destruction which gravely threatens international peace and security.”
Baghaei noted that “Iran’s activity in the sphere of peaceful nuclear development aims to satisfy the country’s technical and industrial needs and is being implemented in accordance with the norms of international law and Iran’s obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and its Safeguards Agreement” between Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
“It is nonsensical to accuse Iran of destabilizing actions in the region, Iran’s defense capabilities are developing in accordance with international law and are necessary to ensure security in West Asia,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
