“Never make a promise you aren’t sure you’ll be able to keep,” advises a large poster hung up in numerous Iranian cities. The poster still contains the pictures of the six candidates that the Guardian Council allowed to run, out of 80 who registered shortly after the election was announced. But one quit the race a few days ago and another on Thursday, both conservatives. And by the time the polls open on Friday, another may have done so as well.
