Will Iraq Be the Next Domino to Fall in the Middle East Conflict?

While all attention has been on what many think are pivotal U.S. elections this week, and what that might mean for the Israel-Gaza conflict, Iran and China, Iraq risks falling apart at the seams, and could be the next domino to fall if the Middle East conflict is not handled correctly by all involved external actors.

Iraq has unwittingly become a staging ground for attacks on both Israel and Iran. 

And the Iraqi Kurds, who have all but lost their battle for independent oil, will be called upon once again to deploy their impressive Peshmerga forces to quell ISIS advances as Sunni radical forces step in to fill a dangerous security vacuum as Baghdad is torn in two by competing forces.

Baghdad denies that Iraq is being used to launch attacks on Israel, but it is a desperate plea at this point. But it’s also being used to attack Iran.

The Iraqi federal government in Baghdad is led by a Shi’ite Cabinet (a Kurd), which officially “sides” with Lebanon and the Palestinians, condemning Israel’s bombardments. Pro-Iranian militias are actively launching attacks against Israel from Iraqi territory–most notably. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq (affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted Israeli positions in the Golan Heights in October.

Likewise, Iran claims that Israel used Iraqi airspace (arranged by the U.S.) to attack Iran on October 26.
