Almost two years ago, on a Saturday evening shortly before Passover, then-Defense Minister Yoav Gallant invited journalists to his office for an important statement. Standing in front of the cameras at military headquarters in Tel Aviv, Gallant warned that the raging battle over the government’s plan to weaken the judiciary was rising to the level of a national security threat and could encourage Israel’s enemies to take a gamble and declare war.
